Mill Road Winter Fair
I heard about volunteering opportunities from my college. I then emailed one of the people in charge of volunteering at the MRWF.
My day was split into two parts. From 9am to 10am I helped set up stalls. Later I helped at the Mill Road Winter Fair Head-Quarters, from 11am to 1.30am. Here are some photos of that below!
My afternoon volunteering at the MRWF was very stressful. We had stewards coming in and out asking where they were supposed to be and complaining that their walkie talkies didn't work. Working at the stewards' base meant that I often had to try and help or find solutions. Additionally, members of the public sometimes came in and asked questions about the Fair, so I had to help them as well. There were also many health and safety issues that came with such a large-scale event, so we had to be wary and remind the stewards to be on the look out for any over-crowding or other issues. I've never had to work in such a busy environment helping people before, so this was definitely a new experience for me.
