Street Child World Cup Summit
I volunteered to wait tables and clear them up at the Street Child World Cup Summit in Cambridge. I heard about this volunteering opportunity through school. I emailed someone who worked there and volunteered over a few days.
There are no photos of me working at the SCWC Summit but here is a form documenting my hours, signed by my supervisor.
Street Child World Cup is a competition for street children to play football, in order to raise awareness for the rights of street children globally. The Summit was to discuss the Cup by people working as part of it. Although I was not directly working as part of the Cup, it was good to know that I was doing my small part by helping, knowing that this was such a huge issue that affects every corner of the globe.
I also developed my interpersonal skills as I had to communicate with dozens of people every night, ask what meal option they wanted, and relay information/messages. I also assisted in the kitchen occasionally. The kitchen was very busy so working in such an hectic environment taught me to react quickly to any problems and think on my feet.
