CAS reflection:
Doing CAS made me much more aware of my potential. With many Creative activities, I felt that I might not be good enough (such as applying for the BFI Film Academy, or making a school magazine). When it came to Action, I thought I wouldn't be able to make it to the end of fitness classes because I thought I wasn't fit enough. As it turns out, I was good enough for applying for the Academy and doing regular fitness classes. I didn't realise how much I could push myself when it came to my art or health. Doing Creativity helped me develop my art skills immensely. I've always thought that my art was fine, but having people critique what I do was a very new experience for me, which helped me develop new skills and techniques. Action pushed me to the limit and taught me to keep going even when I felt exhausted. Service taught me about the importance of thinking globally when it comes to helping others. I've learned a lot about international issues through my Service activities, such as families in poverty after volunteering at Oxfam. But as well as learning about global issues, I've learned about local issues. For example, when volunteering at the Cambridge Science Festival, I heard a lot about how children need to learn more about science, because less and less children at school are interested in it nowadays. One of the learning outcomes I feel I've addressed the most is "Undertaken new challenges." Prior to doing CAS, I now feel that I did not push myself enough to do activities out of my comfort zone, such as Go Ape or attending an Art Workshop. One of the activities I've definitely enjoyed the most is making the School Magazine, which was also my CAS Project. Even though it was challenging at times, I gained invaluable experience for working as a journalist in the future, and had fun working on the creative aspects (layout and colouring). It was also one of the most rewarding because having a final product (the magazine) made it very fulfilling for me. Additionally, having this experience under my belt made me feel that this was useful for me in the future. However, the one that was the most challenging by far was attending the fitness classes. It was exhausting and I felt that I couldn't continue at certain times. For this reason, I would say that it was incredibly challenging. Additionally, I feel that CAS made me much more knowledgeable, especially with volunteering at Oxfam and the Street Child World Cup Summit. I became much more aware about world issues, and how we in more developed countries could help others. I also definitely believe that I've become a much better communicator. This was developed most while I did the BFI Film Academy, as I had to communicate with others, understand their ideas, and develop a project as a group. In conclusion, I believe that doing CAS has helped me grow in so many different areas as a person, and I am most certainly not the same person I was two years ago. |
